Restoring Hope to Leprosy-Affected Families in Uyo
Problem
Leprosy-affected families in Uyo, Nigeria, have been displaced without any form of alternative housing, leaving them in extremely unsafe and unsanitary living conditions. They face severe challenges accessing basic necessities such as food, clean water, and medical care. Many of these families include children who are growing up in hardship, without access to education or skill development opportunities. Beyond their physical needs, they also grapple with deep-rooted societal stigma and exclusion, which further hinder their ability to integrate, receive support, or rebuild their lives with dignity.
Objectives:
Provide shelter ammenities, clean water, food, and clothing
Offer access to health care and rehabilitation
Train youths and women in hairdressing, barbing, and other skills
Rebuild dignity and inclusion for affected families
Help Survivors of Gender-Based Violence Reclaim Their Lives
Problem Statement
Gender-based violence remains a deeply rooted crisis in Nigeria, with 2 in 3 women having experienced physical or sexual abuse, according to the National Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS). Despite the scale of the issue, most survivors lack access to essential support services. The pervasive stigma surrounding abuse, coupled with a culture of silence, continues to trap survivors in cycles of violence, leaving many without the resources or voice to seek justice and begin the journey to healing.
Objectives:
Provide trauma-informed counseling and emotional recovery support
Facilitate access to justice through legal aid and referrals
Organize survivor support groups and healing circles
Run advocacy and awareness campaigns to challenge harmful norms
Train frontline responders and community leaders on GBV prevention and response
